Project Title: Canada's Special Immigration Measures Programs
Project Description:
The CERC Migration is looking for an undergraduate Research Assistant to work on studying the Canadian programs providing protection to extended family members (like the program on people that suffered from the Beirut port explosion in 2020; the earthquake in Syria/Turkey in early 2023l; the Yezzidis – still ongoing; or the people from Gaza or Sudan) of Canadian citizens or Permanent Residents. The aim of the Raship would be to collect data on all these programs, the conditions required, media materials and scholarly research on how these programs worked and what were their outcomes, also gathering and analysing relevant parliamentary debates on the rationale for these programs, and last but not least research whether there are comparable programs in other countries that provide temporary protection to extended family members coming from crisis areas. Possible countries to look at include Australia, the United Kingdom, Canada but also possibly France or Italy or Germany.
