Project Title: Medical Device Force and Motion Monitor
Project Description:
The project entails the design development and testing of a medical instrument that is used to capture the applied forces and motions on an interventional tool, such as a cahteter or guidewire. The project involves both electrical, mechanical designs with ergonomic consideration of the user and clinical staff. Ultimately the system must be verified and validated when in use during a procedure.
RA Position Duties and Resposibilities
(Include Interaction with Research Team Members, Supervisory Arrangements):

The RA must meet and report to the supervisor on a weekly basis. The RA, with the assistance of the supervisor will be responsible for planning out the project and specifying their deliverables and timelines. They must deliver on the tasks assigned to them and take the initiative to overcome potential challenges and barriers with the teams support. They will be also be in charge of carrying out prototype design, development, assembly, as well as its verification testing and validation. Ultimately, the results will be presented in the form of a report and presentation to the lab members and supervisor at the end of the term.
How Many Students Are Currently Under Your Supervision:  Undergraduate: 3   Masters: 2   Doctoral: 2
Animals Will Be Used In Research:       No
Human Subjects Involved:                     No
Hazardous Materials, Equipment, or Processes Will Be Involved in the Research:   No
Research Experience and Opportunites Offered RA:
The student will be involved in research program activities funded by NSERC Discovery, INOVAIT, and CRC. The studentwill gain hands-on expertise and technical skills in system hardware design and development. The RA will also be trainedon the requirements of R&D in the medical device domain. They will become familiar with the requirements of the industry, including partner startup companies. The RA will learn how to manage projects, learn methods of scientific research, as wellas academic writing and presentation.
